Production-ready model of Renault Kiger spotted riding on a new set of alloy wheels

Recently, Renault India globally unveiled the Kiger Concept. The Kiger has been spotted multiple times testing on Indian roads and now it has been caught once again under heavy camouflage in what seems to be a production-ready model riding on a set of alloy wheels. The subcompact is slated to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. According to the French Automaker, its production model would be 80 percent similar to that of the concept. The subcompact SUV will be launched first in India and later on, it will make its way to the International markets. Kiger is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi CMFA + platform that underpins the Triber and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. It will also mark the debut of Renault's 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the country. When launched, the Renault Kiger will rival the likes of Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser in the Indian market. Expect its price to start from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The vehicle was spotted testing in Munna and the images confirm that the upcoming model will have a coupe-like appearance. It sets itself differently from its rival the Nissan Magnite which sports a taller stance. Other key takeaways from the spied images is that the grille comes in a bow shape, there are LED headlights, a sculpted bonnet and LED turn indicators. At the rear, one can observe a black cladding on the bumper in addition to c-shaped taillamps, steeper windshield and LED turn indicators. Few of the other elements include 5-spoke alloy wheels, rear wiper and shark-shaped fin antenna.

There are no interior images available currently but expect features like an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, steering mounted controls, wireless charging, multi-functional instrument cluster among others. In the top-end trims, buyers can look forward to LED ambient lighting, puddle lamps, air purifier, premium fabric upholstery. Safety equipment onboard this SUV will include dual airbags for driver and co-passenger, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera, anti-theft alarms, remote keyless entry, hill start assist and traction control system.

Talking about the performance, Renault will offer two petrol engine options. One will be a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit while the other would be a 1.0-litre turbocharged mill. The former is expected to deliver 71 bhp of maximum power output and 96 Nm of peak torque while the latter should belt out 99 bhp power with 160 Nm peak torque. Transmission options available would be a 5-speed manual and CVT.
