Volkswagen Taigun will be the second SUV to be launched under India VW Group’s 2.0 Plan

Volkswagen is planning to launch the Taigun SUV in the coming months in India. The vehicle has been spied doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past. Recently, the production-ready version of the SUV was spotted doing test runs near Mumbai without any camouflage. The images for the same have been leaked online.

The Taigun SUV will be based on Volkswagen’s locally developed MQB AO IN platform which also underpins Skoda Kushaq slated to be launched last year. As per the leaked images, the SUV features dual-slat chrome-finished grille upfront. We could also see LED matrix headlamps with LED DRLs. Other design bits as noticed in the image include fog lamps, faux skid plate, and beefy cladded bumper. The new Volkswagen Taigun is seen riding on sporty 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Towards the rear end, the SUV is seen flaunting C-shaped LED tail lights connected by a large LED tailbar. The Taigun lettering positioned at the centre gives the SUV a premium feel.

Moving inside the cabin of the upcoming Taigun, it will come loaded with a host of features. There will be a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Apple Carplay, Android Auto, & My Volkswagen Connect app. Moving on, the SUV will also get a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging pad, USB Type-C ports, among many others. The cabin will  boast of dual-tone black & grey color treatment with faux leather upholstery. In terms of safety features, the model will get six airbags, ESC, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and tyre pressure deflation warning to name a few.

Performance-wise, the new Taigun will come with two turbo petrol engines - 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI. The former churns out a maximum power of 113 bhp and a peak torque of 175 Nm. While the latter will produce 148 bhp power and 250 Nm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and a 7-speed DSG unit.

The upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will be positioned in the mid-size SUV segment. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, MG Hector, and Nissan Kicks. Furthermore, due to its high level of localisation, we can expect the SUV to be priced competitively.
