Bookings have commenced and there are 25 variants to choose from.

The carmaker had announced prices last year, in December, and now the Velar is officially on sale in India. Prices range from ₹78.83 lakh to ₹1.37 crore (ex-showroom, India), and the car is available in a total of 25 trims.

There are three engines to choose from - a 179hp, 2.0-litre diesel, a 250hp, 2.0-litre petrol and a 300hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor. The 3.0-litre diesel also comes in a top-spec First Edition trim.

The company’s new Ingenium petrol motor will debut on this car, and is expected to replace the current 240hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor in JLR’s engine line-up. The company says the new engine delivers up to 25 percent more power and uses 15 percent less fuel.

This car also comes with off-road technology - Hill Descent Control (HDC) as standard, the Terrain Response 2 system and an active rear-locking e-differential. Power from the engine is channelled to all four wheels via a standard ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic.

This car is positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, and is a five-seater. On the inside, there’s a Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that uses two 10-inch touchscreens. There are more screen based interfaces inside in the interest of reducing the number of physical buttons.
