He is one of the iconic names in the world primarily for his business acumen, humbleness, and philanthropic activities. Today, Ratan Tata celebrates his 83rd birthday away from the spotlight. He made Tata Group a name to be reckoned with for everyone to sit up and take notice. The company with reported revenue of US$113 billion rose tremendously under Ratan’s tenure. Tata Motors bought Jaguar Land Rover after the British manufacturer almost went bankrupt. Signaling his global ambitions, he turned around the British brand to make it profitable under his leadership. As we celebrate Ratan Tata's Birthday today, here is a look at his car collection.
Tata Nexon
Ratan Tata is quite a big fan of the Nexon. The vehicle has been a trendsetter in the subcompact SUV segment in the domestic market. Launched in 2017, Tata Nexon is available in six variants namely XZ+, XZA+, XZ+(S), XZA+(S), XZ+(O) and XZA+(O). It comes with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The former is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit delivering 108 bhp of power output and 170Nm of peak torque. While the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine produces 108bhp with 260Nm torque. Both the engines come equipped with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearboxes. Tata Nexon price starts from Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
Tata Indigo Marina
Tata Indigo Marina was retailed in the Indian market from 2004 to 2010 before it got discontinued. Ratan Tata modified the estate wagon for his pets. Indigo Marina came with two diesel and one petrol engine options. At the time of launch, it was priced in the range of Rs.4.86 lakh - Rs 6.30 lakh (ex-showroom), India.
Mercedes Benz S-Class
The Mercedes Benz S-Class is a popular choice of wheels for elite businessmen across the world. First debuted in 1972 and since then, it has been a raging hit in the luxury sedan market. All-new Mercedes S Class is arriving later in 2021 in the domestic market. Mercedes-Benz S-Class price starts from Rs 1.38 Crore with the top-end variants retailing at Rs 2.79 Crore. Ferrari California
Ferrari California made its appearance in 2019 and comes with a powerful naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V8 engine. Ratan Tata has been spotted multiple times in the two-door 2+2 hardtop convertible. It was discontinued in 2017 and replaced by the Portofino. Ferrari California can clock a top speed of 310 kmph. At the time of the launch, the supercar was priced at Rs 3.45 crore (ex-showroom), India.
Land Rover Freelander
Land Rover Freelander is a four-door, five-passenger, all-wheel drive SUV that was in production from 1997 to 2014. The first edition came loaded with a Traction Control System and a special version of ABS sourced from Wabco. It was discontinued and replaced by Discovery Sport in 2015. The price of the now discontinued Land Rover Freelander 2 started from Rs 43.14 lakh with the top-end retailed at 51.35 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, India.
