The Kaptur is positioned above the Duster, and will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

After the Duster and the Kwid, Renault plans on continuing its success streak in India with a crossover, called the Kaptur. It’s a more premium offering than the Duster that has been developed for developing markets. Here are some facts that you should know.

Under the skin
The Kaptur is built on the same rugged mechanicals as the Duster. The fact, that these underpinnings are already produced in India, will allow Renault to price the Kaptur competitively. This Crossover is also similar in size to the Duster, and hence, expect it to be just as spacious too.

Power talk
Internationally, the Kaptur comes with 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines. In India, however, Renault is likely to introduce it with the same 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the Duster. The engine will, however, be tuned to produce more power.

Five plus two
Like the Duster, the Kaptur is sold as a five-seat SUV in coutries abroad. But Renault is likely to develop a seven-seat version of the car for India, which should make it a rival to the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa.

One-up on the Duster
Since this is a more premium car than the Duster, it will be costlier too. Expect it to cost approximately ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) when it arrives in India sometime around the end of 2017.
