Disappointed by power figures on the new Royal Enfield 650 twins? Well, we have good news for you. Powertronic has come up with a new engine performance management system for Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. This ECU is meant to improve performance of the bikes by increasing total power output. You can purchase the said ECU unit for Rs. 22,000 from the official website of the company. And for an additional sum of Rs. 1,300, you get a handlebar map switch that helps you easily switch between different power modes.
If the claims of Powertronic are to be believed, the ECU increases power and torque of the 650-cc motorcycles to a considerable extent. On being mated with the 648-cc engine employed on these bikes, the ECU gives a dyno reading that shows 3 to 5 Bhp increase in power over original figures. And torque figures show a spike of up to 3 Nm.
Originally, the 648-cc parallel-twin engine operating the 650 twins generates 47 Bhp power at 7,250 RPM and 52 Nm of torque at 5,250 RPM. The new ECU reportedly delivers better throttle response and enhanced engine response at lower rev bands. It manages both fuel and ignition to deliver optimal performance and throttle response throughout the rev range.
You ask how?
The Powertronic ECU allows engine to rev till 12,000 rpm and can be further taken to 15,000 rpm for race setup. It can be installed within 40 minutes without any high-end tool. This unit comes with dual pre-tuned maps that can also be downloaded from the company website. The wiring harness on the unit is heat and water-resistant and the setup comes with a 1-year unlimited support and replacement warranty. Moreover, Powertronic also offers a free replacement policy of 15 days if the buyer is not satisfied with the results.
However, we want to warn buyers that this is not an official Royal Enfield accessory so installing it might void the warranty of your Interceptor 650 or Continental GT 650 motorcycle. We advise you to consult the authorized service center before opting for this accessory. While Rs. 22,000 is not a small sum, the entire riding experience on your bike will improve after installing this ECU.
If this much power is also not enough to get you adrenaline rush, you can go for more sophisticated modification on the 650 twins by spending extra. Shell out Rs. 50,000 and you can upgrade the engine to a 750-cc unit or 865-cc unit. A company named S&S Performance is manufacturing several performance-enhancing kits for 650 twins, including big bore engine kits that dramatically increase the performance of your bike.
