Sales of Royal Enfield fell by 6% in November due to huge anticipation for the new Continental 650 and Interceptor 650 bikes.
Royal Enfield reported a 6% fall in sales for November 2018. The company managed to sell 65,744 units in November 2018 compared to 70,126 units in the year-ago month. The domestic sales stood at 65,026 units while exports during the months were 718 units. While the international exports plunged big time from 2350 units in November 2017, domestic sales drop was comparatively reasonable from 67,776 units.
The reason for the drop in sales figure include the operational strike at the company's Oragadam plant from September 24 to November 12, leading to a production loss of 28,000 units. Moreover, the launch of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 Twins might have also put prospective RE buyers on hold as these machines provide a lot more bang for the buck over the company's current offerings. The company offers 3 variants each for the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650, the Interceptor 650 starts at Rs. 2,50,000/- and the Continental GT 650 at Rs. 2,65,000/- (both prices ex-showroom, India).
Royal Enfield now also faces competition with the launch of Jawa Motorcycles in the form of Jawa Standard, Jawa Forty Two and Jawa Perak. The Jawa range of bikes start at Rs. 1,55,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
