Royal Enfield showcases Classic 500 Pegasus Edition

Only 250 units of the bike will be sold in India.

The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition pays homage to the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 motorcycle, used by British paratroopers during World War II. The bike was popularly known as the ‘Flying Flea’, since it was air-dropped at battlefields. The lightweight, two-stroke motorcycle was popular among messengers, its light weight allowed the rider to carry it on their shoulders when the trenches were too deep.

Of the 1000 units that will be made, only 250 units will go on sale in India. In the UK, the bike costs GBP 4,999 (approx. Rs 4.56 lakh) and we expect it to retail for around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom) in our country. The bike features a Pegasus logo on the fuel tank. The military-style canvas panniers, leather strap with brass buckles on the air box, and a tank badge as used on the Flying Flea. There are also blacked out elements like the exhaust muffler, engine, rims, handlebar and headlight bezel. Internationally, the bike will be available in Olive Drab Green and Service Brown, and only the brown shade will be sold in India.

All the motorcycles will carry a unique serial number that will be stencilled on the fuel tank. The bike is powered by a 499cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which makes 27.6hp and 41.3Nm.
