The company will also update two other motorcycle platforms to meet BS-VI norms.

Royal Enfield company's president, Rudratej Singh was recently quoted as saying, “Royal Enfield has several projects in the pipeline and the electric platform is one of them. We are in an investment phase in the project where we have a team that is working on different ideas and concepts with a long-term focus. We will disclose our plans at an appropriate time."

For now, the company hasn’t given us a timeline for RE’s electric platform development. You could see the first production bike sometime before 2020. For a company that specialises in making old-school bikes, what will an electric Royal Enfield be like? It’s sure to have a lot of torque and lots of that famous Royal Enfield character well, but it may be missing the iconic thump.

Rudratej Singh also confirmed that the company is building two platforms to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms, which will replace existing platforms. The upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc twins are already scalable so, it’s most likely going to be the Classic, Thunderbird and Himalayan series that will get the new platform.
