Skoda, the Czech auto manufacturer which is also a part of the Volkswagen Group is currently heading the group’s strategy for the Indian car market.
With the aim to grow the company’s car market share, Skoda is expected to bring in a few new car models. Among the expected launch car model is Skoda Kamiq which will take on cars like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Before the official launch of the car, several spy shots have been doing rounds on social media.
Skoda is planning to lift the veil from the Indian spec Kamiq at the 2020 Auto Expo that is scheduled to happen in Feb 2020. But the Indian car market has to wait until its official launch in 2021. The car would be Skoda’s entry-level SUV in market.
The spy shots seem to suggest that a Euro-spec model had come for testing in Indian conditions. The European spec model is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 architecture platform, which aims to facilitate the production process and reduce the CO2 emission. However, the MQB platform is quite expensive, so the group is working on the MQB-A0-IN platform, specifically meant for the Indian market.
The Indian version of the Kamiq is yet to get a name that is likely to be heard in the 2020 Auto Expo. The car will get design cues similar to the international spec Kamiq.
The Indian version of the Skoda Kamiq will be 4.2 meters in length and sport a longer wheelbase than the European model. Also, on offer will be the futuristic cabin that features an 8.0-inch touchscreen-enabled infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, reclinable rear seats and much more. The top-end variants of the model will get multiple airbags and ABS for increased safety.
The model is expected to be available only in the petrol variant since tougher BS-VI will apply in year 2020.
