Skoda Kushaq is the first of the four new models planned by Skoda and Volkswagen brands to be manufactured locally in India

Skoda India has released the official sketches of the Kushaq SUV ahead of its world premiere on March 18, 2021 in the country. Being based on the VISION IN Concept and the first vehicle under India 2.0 Project Strategy, it underpins the MQB-A0-IN version of the Volkswagen Group's Modular Transverse Toolkit specifically made for India. Moreover, Skoda Kushaq is the first of the four new models planned by Skoda and Volkswagen brands to be manufactured locally in India. For those asking, 'Kushaq' is a Sanskrit word which means 'King' or 'Emperor'.

Going by the official sketches, Skoda Kushaq flaunts a bold front fascia with two-piece headlights, wide Skoda grille and front bumper with underbody protection. As for the rear profile, one can notice an elongated roof spoiler and a rugged rear diffuser in the bumper frame. The tail-lamp clusters reflect the brand’s trademark crystalline structures while the tailgate boasts of the 'Skoda' lettering in block capitals. The company has announced that Kushaq will have over 95 percent of localization level with all the technical development being carried out at Skoda’s Technology Centre in Pune. In fact, the MQB-A0-IN platform complies with the new, stricter safety and emission requirements in India

Skoda Kushaq will come with a fairly spacious interior cabin due to the extended wheelbase of 2671mm. As for features, it is likely to come loaded with premium bells and whistles in the form of cruise control, ambient lighting and a free-standing 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Being a 5-seater SUV, it will get plenty of safety features like 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera and 3-point seat-belts with pretensioners etc. to name a few. Mechanically, Skoda Kushaq will be available with a couple of petrol engines, namely a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated powerplant. The transmission choices could include both manual as well as automatic gearboxes.
