Skoda Rapid ‘Rider’ Trim Launched in India

The Indian division of Skoda has launched the more affordable Rider trim of the Rapid sedan. The prices for the new trim start at Rs. 6.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, which is very affordable to say the least as the new trim directly places the Rapid sedan in a price bracket lower than that of other bestsellers in the segment like Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze. The range topping petrol models of the two sedans are priced at Rs. 7.32 lakhs and Rs. 7.33 lakhs respectively.

The latest trim of the Rapid comes with a 1.6L petrol engine rated to deliver 105 Bhp and 153 Nm. The transmission duties on the trim are handled by a 5 speed manual gearbox. The new Rider trim of the Rapid does not come with the 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox that is sold with other variants. The Rider trim of Rapid as of now is only available with a petrol engine in the market and there is no diesel on offer, but one can choose other trims of the sedan for a diesel model.

Zac Hollis the director of sales, service and marketing at Skoda India talked about the introduction of the new trim of Rapid sedan and stated,

“The RAPID RIDER offers a compelling combination of the brand’s emotive design, exquisite interiors and class leading safety features, at a very competitive price point. It is deemed to be a best seller setting benchmark for functionality, practicality and spaciousness in its segment.”

Among the major changes seen on the Rider trim of Rapid sedan will be an all-black grille and black treatment for other areas of the car as well. The Rider trim will come only in Candy White and Carbon Steel shades and the black treatment along with these colour schemes will give the car a dual tone feel. Coming to the interiors, one will find dual-tone ebony sand interiors and with ivory slate upholstery. The Rider trim will also come with underbody protection and 6 year warranty as standard.

Among other features of the new Rider trim are dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, seat belt reminder and ABS as standard in the safety department. Other features found on higher trims may be missing from the new trim as this is the lower cost variant of the same. Therefore, expect the cabin of the new Rider trim to be equipped moderately in the features department.
