Skoda Auto India launches BS6 Rapid Automatic with a 6-speed torque converter gearbox

Skoda Auto India has just launched the automatic variant of Rapid TSI at an introductory price of Rs 9.49 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. The top-end Rapid Automatic variant is offered at Rs 13.29 lakhs (ex-showroom). The AT variant with a 6-speed torque converter gearbox is being introduced quite a few months after the BS6 Rapid TSI entered the market with a manual transmission. Its manual variant was introduced in the price range of Rs 7.49 lakhs - Rs 11.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). Considering this, the automatic variant is Rs 1.5 lakh -Rs 2 lakh pricier than the manual variant. BS6 Skoda Rapid AT is offered in a total of five trims namely Rider Plus, Ambition AT, ONYX AT, Style AT, and Monte Carlo AT.

The sedan is powered by the same 1.0-litre TSI, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that currently powers the manual variant. Thus the power output and torques figure remain unchanged. The Automatic Skoda Rapid churns out 110 bhp power @ 5000 - 5500 rpm and 175 Nm peak torque @ 1750 - 4000 rpm. Furthermore, the engine is linked to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which is the major highlight here. The automatic variant offers a fuel efficiency of 16.24 kmpl (ARAI certified). While the manual variant offers a mileage of 18.97 kmpl (ARAI Certified). In comparison to the manual variant, this new Rapid AT sees a 5 percent upsurge in power, a 14 percent rise in torque output along with a 9 percent increase in fuel efficiency. The torque converter automatic gearbox is a reliable proven technology that further makes the C-segment sedan easily accessible to customers.

In terms of design, the new Rapid AT gets a black colored Skoda signature grille, quartz cut projector headlights, and modern crystalline DRLs upfront. Other design highlights include 16-inch silver clubber alloy wheels, body-color trunk rear spoiler, chrome garnish on the windows along with black finished B-pillars. The rest of the design elements remain unchanged. As for the interior, it too remains the same as before.
