After all the rumors, the reveal date for Skoda Superb is finally here. The company will present the facelifted version of their car on 23 May, 2019 in Slovakia Ice Hockey World Championship that will be held in the country. A lot of changes are not expected to be present on the facelifted model of the Superb and one can expect to see changes in the cabin of the car as the exteriors will remain mostly the same. Among the changes in the interiors of the upcoming car will be overhaul of the central console of the car and a new infotainment unit can be expected.
However, the major changes will be seen in the engine department of the sedan. A major possibility is the presence of a plug-in hybrid in the updated model of the car. This unit is likely to be borrowed from the Volkswagen Passat. However, there are slim chances that this hybrid option will make its way out of Europe and to countries like India, and one can expect the car to come with only turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options in the country. The hybrid option on the Skoda Superb may come with a 1.4L TSI turbo petrol engine that will come with an electric motor that will put the output of the combination at 218 Bhp.
As far as the battery only range of the sedan is concerned, the car will be able to do 50 kilometers when operated on electric mode. This would mean that the car would have a higher fuel efficiency along with emission advantages that will help keep the car’s prices low in many parts of the world. There are chances that all the cars from Volkswagen and Skoda could adopt the same setup in order to comply with strict emission norms across the world. could take in the face of tightening emissions across the globe.
As already stated, although the chances of the hybrid model coming to India are slim, but if the model makes its way to India, it will lock horns with models like the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Accord Hybrid in the country. As of now, the Skoda Superb tops the sales charts in the market. The car appeals to the customers in the segment with its luxurious cabin, spacious interiors and feature loaded package. While Skoda India has not revealed an exact timeline for launch of the new Superb, there are chances that the model will hit the Indian markets by the end of the year, or in the first quarter of 2020.
