Skoda will handle VW Group model development for India

Skoda will lead the charge in India and the first model will roll out in 2020.

The development of future Volkswagen Group cars for India will be handled by the Skoda brand. The Czech company will take over development of the sub-compact MQB – A0 platform and will focus mainly on the India-specific MQB A0-IN.  

Work on future VW and Skoda models is already underway and the first car built on the MQB A0-IN platform will go on sale in 2020. It will be an SUV and will be pit against the Hyundai Creta in India. This new SUV will also have a Volkswagen derivative. Skoda is currently working on taking over VW’s Chakan facility which will be modified to accommodate the new MQB-A0-IN platform.

The new MQB-A0-IN production line will be work alongside the existing line which will continue to produce cars such as the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Ameo and Polo.
