The diesel version of the Punch was spotted at a petrol pump in Pune

Tata Motors had launched the highly anticipated Punch micro-SUV on October 18, 2021 in the Indian market. It was introduced only with a petrol engine while gearbox choices included a 5-speed manual and AMT unit. Now, the diesel version of the Punch was spotted at a petrol pump in Pune which clearly indicated that the company has already begun testing of the Punch diesel and it could be launched soon in the country. Tata Punch petrol price starts at Rs 5.49 Lakhs, so we expect the diesel variants could be launched at Rs 6.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).

During the launch of the Punch, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President - Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors had confirmed that the company is looking forward to introduce not only diesel but also the electric version of the micro-SUV. Underpinning the same Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture as the Altroz, Tata Punch is presently offered with a naturally aspirated 1.2L petrol engine which dishes out top power of 85 bhp and peak torque of 113 Nm. It also gets the engine start/stop function alongside two driving modes in the form of City and Eco. The diesel version of the micro-SUV could use the Altroz's 1.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine as the Tiago's 1.05L 3-cylinder motor has been discontinued.

The BS6 compliant 1.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine which powers Tata Altroz develops maximum power of 89 bhp and highest torque of 200 Nm. We expect that these figures will remain unchanged with the Punch. Besides the diesel engine, Tata is also working on a turbo-petrol version of the Punch. We have already seen the Altroz getting it earlier this year and now Tata Punch will be equipped with a more powerful turbocharged petrol engine and it could be launched as early as March 2022 in the Indian market. Furthermore, an all-electric version of the Punch is also under development and it could become India's most affordable electric SUV when it launches by early 2023 in the country.
