The VW Ameo Cup will be replacing the Vento Cup for this season of the automaker's one-make race championship. Around 20 drivers are expected on the grid for the 2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup season, which is set to kick off in June with a standalone event. Volkswagen Motorsport India has officially revealed the technical and cosmetic upgrades we should be looking forward to in the new car.
As compared to its predecessor, the Ameo Cup car has received a complete makeover – it’s also a whole three seconds faster. It is powered by a solid 1.8-litre TSI motor, producing 200hp and mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifts. The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is completely new and has been independently calibrated and mapped to suit the new engine and the gearbox control system. Braking is handled by the 334mm ventilated discs on front tyres and 232mm discs at the rear. VW has enforced due safety precautions with an 8-point roll cage and 6-point racing seatbelts, as per the guidelines of the FMSCI.
The 2017 race season is all set to commence in June this year at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, before moving to MMRT and finally ending at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Noida.
