The company will continue its off-road formula and this version will be even more rugged.

The all-new Jimny (Maruti Gypsy in India) will be revealed by end-2018 and it will most probably be first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The new SUV will look much more softened and road-biased. Suzuki says that the car will be much more rugged and will also sport a retro design.

Feedback from previous owners has also been taken during the car’s development. The Jimny has always had a reputation for its effective off-road capabilities and robustness. The car's overall design will reflect its 4x4 status, but will be inspired by the earlier-generation Jimnys with a simple, box-shaped body. The interior will get more modern features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, but the overall design (based on spy pictures) remains clunky. The company has been testing the car in four countries to make sure it’s absolutely ready when it goes on sale.

Suzuki’s turbocharged 1.0-litre Boosterjet three-pot and a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre engine are likely to feature. There’s no diesel option – the brand has stated that it has pulled all diesel options from its current line-up. There is no news on an India launch yet.
