Altroz iTurbo would be rivalling New-Gen Hyundai i20 Turbo, Maruti Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT in the domestic market

Tata Altroz iTurbo is making its way to the Indian market, tomorrow, January 13, 2021. The launch was expected considering that it has been spotted multiple times testing on the Indian roads last year. Tata Motors is launching the turbo variant to mark the one-year Anniversary of Altroz's inception in the country. The homegrown manufacturer recently released a teaser video of the upcoming hot hatch on their social media channels. In the released teaser, the model sports Tata Altroz ‘i-Turbo’ badge. The new turbo petrol engine will give the Indian buyer another option apart from the existing line-up of the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. As per various media reports, the new Altroz variant would come with new features. With the launch of the turbo variant, Altroz would be rivalling the New-Gen Hyundai i20 Turbo, Maruti Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT in the domestic market. Another point to observe is that the iTurbo will come in an all-new XZ+ variant. Our expectations are that Tata Altroz iTurbo could retail at a premium of Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 over the current 1.2-litre Altroz on sale in India.

Talking about the exterior, the most notable update is the new blue colour paint scheme exclusive to the iTurbo petrol variant as of now. Overall, the design is almost identical to the current Altroz on sale in the country except for the ‘i-Turbo’ badge on the tailgate. Inside, the cabin comes in a light grey colour scheme with City and Sport driving modes. Also, there are expectations of 2 additional speakers alongside the existing current 6 speaker system sourced from Harmon. Other key features would include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, start/stop with smart key among many others. There are strong chances of Tata’s iRA connected car tech making its way to the turbo model. Additionally, Tata Altroz iTurbo will come loaded with safety equipment like ABS with EBD, front airbags, cornering stability control, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlamps.

Talking about the performance, the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol is the same one powering Tata Nexon. The engine would be detuned so expect different power figures. Tata Altroz iTurbo would deliver a power output of 110 bhp and 140Nm of peak torque. The powertrain would come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Chances of a DCT gearbox arriving cannot be discounted considering other rival cars either come with automatic or CVT units in the segment.
