Tata all set to enter micro-SUV segment with H2X Concept car.

Tata unveiled 5 vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show, and one of them was he H2X concept that is the brand’s foray into the micro-SUV segment, where currently only the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis exist. With the brand only presenting the concept version of the car in Geneva, there has been a lot of buzz around the same. So here are 10 facts you should know about Tata H2X Concept.

Bigger

H2X Concept may be a micro SUV however, the brand has based the design of the car more on an SUV and less on a hatch. The company disclosed the dimensions of the car at Geneva and it revealed that the H2X will be the largest car in its segment. H2X concept’s 3840 mm of length, 1822 mm of width, and 1635 mm of height makes it bigger than Maruti Suzuki Ignis or the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

Platform Sharing

Tata had already stated that its newly developed ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Arc platform can be extended and modified as per the demand of the vehicle. This platform will underpin the upcoming Altroz, Altroz EV and under-development Blackbird SUV. Not to mention that the upcoming production version of H2X will also feature the same platform and will perhaps be the smallest car to be built on ALFA platform.

H5X Concept Inspired Design

In line with all new and upcoming Tata cars, the H2X too will be designed on Tata’s new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. The company also states that the upcoming car will also be inspired by the design of H5X Concept (first presented at 2018 India Auto Expo), which later was released as the Harrier SUV this year. Therefore, the H2X Concept could also feature distinct looks in the segment.

Leading Cabin Space

As mentioned in the article beforehand, the H2X concept will be the largest vehicle in the segment, dimension-wise. This is bound to be reflected in the space inside the car as well. Tata has said that H2X concept’s production version will feature the best cabin room in the segment and will challenge cars from above its segment. This claim by Tata and the H2X concept’s wheelbase of 2450 mm leads one to believe that 5 adults could easily fit inside the upcoming micro SUV.

Smallest SUV

This is a no-brainer but some people are saying that calling H2X an SUV is not justified. However, the company has been using the same term and has constantly been emphasizing that H2X will be placed under the company’s sub-compact SUV, Nexon. This will make Tata’s SUV lineup consist 5 SUVs with IMPACT 2.0 design DNA in them – the H2X (upcoming), Nexon, Blackbird (upcoming), Harrier, and the Buzzard (upcoming).

1.2-Litre Petrol Engine Likely

The company has still not revealed anything about the powertrains of the upcoming H2X, however the rumor mill has it that the upcoming micro-SUV could come with the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine a first. As far as the transmissions are concerned, the company is expected to offer the car with both manual and automatic gearboxes.

Launch

As was seen with the H5X concept, R&D team of the company got the concept into the production stage by the end of one year. If the same is to be assumed true for the H2X, we can expect that the company launches it during the first half of 2020.

Consistent Interior Design

As is the case with any concept, the cabin and dashboard of H2X concept were very futuristic. But take a closer look and the pattern begins to fall in place with the interiors reflecting the design language followed on recent Tata cars.

2020 Delhi Auto Expo

Presented with the concept of H2X at Geneva, now the company plans to bring the production version of the same to India in 2020 Auto Expo. Not to be confused with the launch, this will only be the unveiling of the car and the launch will take place at a later date.

Pricing

H2X concept will obviously be placed below the Nexon in Tata’s product lineup. Tata Nexon’s prices start at Rs. 6.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), therefore it only makes sense that H2X’s production version’s price starts at around Rs. 4.5-5 lakhs.
