Tata has finally launched the much awaited Harrier with a starting price of Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Tata Motors showcased the H5X concept at the Auto Expo 2018 and the audience appreciated the design of the concept. The production version was revealed later in 2018 with a Harrier nameplate and the Indian automaker maintained the bold styling of the SUV very well. The Harrier has been launched now with an attractive price tag of Rs. 12.69 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom) for the base XE variant.

The Harrier XM variant is priced at Rs. 13.75 lakhs while the XT is priced at Rs. 14.95 lakhs and the range topping XZ is priced at Rs. 16.25 lakhs. The Tata Harrier comes with a single 2.0-litre Fiat sourced Kryotec diesel engine option that produces 140 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Tata Motors is preparing to get a Hyundai sourced 6-speed automatic transmission for the Harrier but the AWD option isn't expected to be offered with the Harrier considering the demand for the same in this segment. The Harrier is a front-wheel drive vehicle that comes with multiple driving modes that help it tackle the rough terrain thanks to the active electronic stability control system.

In terms of safety, the Tata Harrier is equipped with hill hold assist, descent assist, rollover mitigation, corner stability control, electronic stability programme, electronic traction control, six airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounts for rear seats. Dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and reverse parking sensors are offered as standard across all variants.

The Tata Harrier is positioned between the Safari Storme and Hexa in the Tata Motors lineup. It competes with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. We expect the Harrier to give a stiff competition to the rivals considering the aggressive pricing by the Indian carmaker.
