Tata Harrier has been in the news ever since it was launched in India. It is that one SUV from the brand, which comes with the most modern design in the company’s line-up. No wonder then that the compact SUV by the Indian maker has been causing ripples in the market and has been giving a tough fight to Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass in segment. Although Harrier will face some formidable rivals in the form the MG Hector and Kia Seltos in the coming times. As of now, the SUV is totally shattering the competition in the market and the sales numbers for the month of April as well put the Harrier ahead of the rivals in the segment. So what is the reason behind the Harrier performing so brilliantly in the market? Let’s take a look.
Price
With the Harrier, the Indian maker managed to nail the pricing accurately. The prices for Tata Harrier start at Rs. 12.69 lakhs, ex-showroom, this makes it significantly cheaper than the diesel model of Jeep Compass which comes in at Rs. 16.61 lakh. The only real competition that Harrier faces is from the base variant of XUV500 that is priced at Rs. 12.66 lakh, ex-showroom. However the base variant of XUV500 misses out on critical features.
It is a common thing to see the base models of cars being stripped of features to keep it affordable but the base XE variant of Tata Harrier is loaded with features like projector headlamps, dual-function daytime running lamps, door mirror-mounted logo projector, electronic ORVMs, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS and EBD. The base variant also gets telescopic adjustable steering and all four power windows.
Street presence
SUV customers in India are naturally attracted to models that have a commanding street presence and with the IMPACT 2.0 design language, Tata Harrier has a very futuristic design that manages to turn all the heads on the road. Coming down to numbers, the dimensions of Tata Harrier go 4598x1894x1714 mm in length, width and height respectively. The sheer dimensions make the SUV the most attractive in the segment.
Looks
As already mentioned, Tata Harrier manages to catch everyone’s eyes on the roads, and with this great street presence comes great looks. The new design philosophy of the brand sure is a great head turner, with the futuristic design trend that the Tata Harrier has brought in the segment, it sure looks extraordinary. The entirely fresh design of the SUV makes it a unique choice in the segment. Not to mention that the signature orange colour of the car only adds to its glory.
Interior
The good looks of the exterior of Tata Harrier are complemented by the interiors as well. The increased dimensions of the Harrier means that the car is very spacious from inside. Not to mention that the cabin of the Harrier is also very well appointed and comes loaded with features. The premium fit and finish of the materials inside the cabin give the owner a very upmarket feel and makes the Harrier appear a car from a few segments above. 5 fully grown adults can sit comfortably in the SUV and the huge boot space of 425 litres is only icing on the cake.
Safety
Nexon already proved that the Indian maker has turned a corner and is also focusing on the safety aspect of their cars in the market. Harrier is also expected to follow suit as the compact SUV from Tata comes with features such as 6-airbags and a solid build quality. Other safety features of the SUV include off-road ABS, ABS+EBD, 14-function ESP with features like cornering ABS, disc wiping, automatic hydraulic brake adjuster, brake assist and much more. The Harrier is quite loaded when it comes to safety.
