Tata Motors is planning to launch its micro-SUV, HBX in India by early 2021. The SUV has been spotted doing test runs on the roads on multiple occasions in the past. Recently, it was once again caught in the eye of the camera. The images of the test mule were leaked online, despite heavy camouflage, it looked production-ready.
In terms of design, the HBX is based on the “Agile Light Flexible Advanced” platform. As per these recent images, it gets a tri-arrow grille and a large faux skid plate. In addition, it also features a split headlight setup with LED DRLs and round-shaped fog lamps. The SUV provides a muscular bonnet. On the sides, it caters to roof-rails, blacked-out B-pillars along with dual-tone alloy wheels wrapped in rugged tyres. At the rear, the test mule portrayed a bumper along with vertically positioned reflectors.
As for the interiors, the upcoming HBX will boast of a spacious cabin with square-shaped AC vents. Other feature highlights will include the engine-start-stop button, a 7-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and a flat-bottom multifunctional steering wheel. The safety kit will comprise of dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, a speed alert system, and a reversing camera.
Under the bonnet, the upcoming Tata HBX will be powered by the same engine that propels the Tiago hatchback. Thus it will get a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated, Revotron petrol engine. This engine generates 85 bhp power and 115 Nm torque while being linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with AMT as an option.
HBX will be placed below the Nexon in Tata Motor's product portfolio. Also, the micro-SUV will be the second product from the brand to be built on the ALFA platform. Furthermore, we can expect Tata HBX to be priced in the range of Rs 5 lakh - Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
