Tata Hornbill will be based on the HBX Concept; likely to be launched in May 2021

Tata Motor is likely to launch its sub-4-meter SUV, Hornbill in May next year. The mini SUV has been spotted doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past. Spy images for the same have also been leaked online. The upcoming Hornbill will be based on the Tata HBX Concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo this year. It will further feature the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language.

From the old spy images that were leaked online, we got a fair idea of what the mini SUV could look like in its production-ready format. In terms of design, it features LED headlamps with slim LED DRLs. The images also revealed that the Hornbill will offer Tata’s signature tri-arrow design on the air dam and Tata’s ‘Humanity Line’ front grille.  On the sides, the model was seen with square-shaped wheel arches. Unlike the concept, the production model will also flaunt a sporty upright stance. The rear end boasts of compact LED taillamps.

As for the interior features, not many details have been revealed yet. However, the mini SUV will come equipped with advanced comfort, connectivity, and safety features as available in the other Tata cars.

Under the hood, the upcoming Tata Hornbill is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine that will produce 86 bhp power. The top-end trims are likely to be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor. Transmission options should include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearboxes.

Tata Motor is planning to launch quite a few new models in the near future. The company has even filed a trademark for three new names recently. This has further given us a hint that Tata might launch a new sedan, MPV, mid-size SUV, and electric cars in the coming years. Currently, the brand is also prepping up to launch the seven-seater SUV, Gravitas anytime next year in the Indian market.
