The standard Nexon model is already available in diesel, petrol, and electric versions.

Tata Motors revealed the Nexon iCNG at the ongoing 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in Delhi. The new iCNG Nexon model is going to be the fifth addition to the company’s CNG lineup after it hits the automotive market. It will be the first turbo-petrol car to come equipped with a factory-fitted CNG kit. At the event, the auto giant also unveiled other models like the Curvv diesel concept in a shining orange color and the Nexon EV Dark.

In the Indian automotive market, Tata Motor is all set to roll out its new CNG-powered cars. The automaker recently started taking bookings for India’s first CNG AT cars, the Tigor and Tiago. The Standard Nexon is already available in diesel, petrol, and electric versions. Now, the brand has revealed the Nexon iCNG as a concept for its Indian buyers. The addition of a CNG version has further enhanced the car’s accessibility and popularity.

The new model will feature Tata Motors’ signature twin-cylinder technology that can hold an equivalent of 60 litres of water. The Nexon iCNG concept boasts a modular fuel filter, a single advanced ECU, an auto switch between both fuels, direct start in the CNG function, and a claimed faster refueling rate, all thanks to the NGV1 universal-type nozzle.

The Nexon iCNG looks a little different from the petrol-powered model, except for the fog lamps at the front. The new concept comes equipped with a dual-cylinder system along with tanks situated on the boot floor. This gives the car a boot space of around 230 litres. Tata Motors has integrated an auto switch feature in the car, and in cases of low CNG levels, the switch automatically changes fuel.

The auto giant has not revealed the exact specification details of the concept model. However, its powertrain figures are anticipated to be lower than the outgoing petrol version. The Nexon petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 118 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT units. The Nexon iCNG is likely to get manual transmission initially, but the manufacturer could also offer the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) trim of the car later.
