Tata Nexon Petrol DCT spotted doing test runs alongside Gravitas 7-seater SUV

Tata Nexon received a facelift earlier this year. Now it is all set to get another update. At present, the petrol variant that is offered with the options of a 6-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed automatic transmission will now get a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).

Recently, a prototype of Tata Nexon petrol DCT was spotted with the PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System) or RDE (Real Driving Emissions) setup doing test runs alongside the Gravitas SUV outside the company plant roads of Pimpri-Chinchwad area near Pune.

Tata Nexon Petrol DCT will be sharing its new automatic gearbox with Tata Altroz Turbo. This gearbox is reported to be sourced from Punch Powertrain. We can expect the new gearbox to offer an improved driving experience. Currently, the Nexon Facelift is offered with two engine options. A 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine that dishes out 118 bhp power and 170 Nm torque. The engine can be availed with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. While a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel unit churns out a maximum power of 108 bhp and a peak torque of 260 Nm. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 6-speed automatic transmission as an option. The diesel variant will not receive any such update as of now.

Once introduced into the market, Tata Nexon Petrol DCT will rival the likes of Kia Sonet DCT and Hyundai Venue DCT. Furthermore, it is expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2022. As for the price, the Nexon Petrol DCT variant might be Rs 1 lakh premium over the existing petrol manual variant. At present, Nexon Facelift petrol variant falls in the price range of Rs 7 lakh - Rs 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
