Tata Motors launched the Sierra two-door SUV in 1991, and the SUV has been very popular among buyers since then. The automaker has hinted that it may resurrect the nameplate in a new electric avatar. Tata Motors revealed the Sierra concept as a 3-door offering at the 2020 Auto Expo. Later, the automaker unveiled this SUV as a 5-door electric at the Auto Expo in 2023. Recently, the Sierra EV’s design patent was revealed online, hinting at its arrival.
The leaked design patent provides more details about the interior and exterior design of the Sierra SUV. The upcoming EV is likely to come with the same profile at the front as the outgoing Tata SUVs. Tata Motors mostly adds various elements from the concept into the production version. The Sierra EV is also likely to retain elements from the concept version.

The Sierra Electric comes with flashy alloy wheels, a flush door handle, massive quarter glass and windows, and a D-pillar that has a slight heft, adding more charm to the SUV. The LED strip at the front is running across the width of the EV, whereas the headlamps are fixed into the bumper, which now has vertical slats. The SUV has a front skid plate, muscular haunches on the bonnet, and body cladding on the sides. The front door has an ".EV" badge, which will become more common in forthcoming Tata EVs.
Tata has not shared any information regarding the powertrain. However, the Sierra SUV is likely to get two electric motors on each axle, bringing all-wheel drive to the EV. The interior of the upcoming Sierra is likely to retain various elements from the concept. It is expected to come with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and other advanced features.
The Tata Sierra EV is likely to go into production sometime in 2025, and the company might offer it as a lifestyle offering. The company is planning to introduce an all-new internal combustion unit version with diesel and petrol powertrain options. The Tata Sierra EV will be a tough competitor to Mahindra Thar Electric, which is also likely to be launched sometime in 2025. Tata Motors is getting ready to unveil the Curvv electric compact SUV in 2024 and the Curvv ICE in 2025, while the Harrier EV is scheduled to launch next year.
