Tata Motors is all set to launch the CNG version of Tiago and Tigor later this month in the Indian market. The company recently teased the duo via a small video at its social media channels. The official bookings for Tata Tiago CNG and Tata Tigor CNG have started with the token amount ranging somewhere between Rs 5000-20000, depending on the city and dealer. The home-grown automaker has been mulling the idea of introducing CNG-powered vehicles but it was delayed by COVID-19 pandemic and semiconductor chip crisis.

The CNG-powered duo of Tiago and Tigor will carry minimal styling updates as compared to the standard models. They have already been spotted as test mules multiple times in the past on the Indian roads. The brand is expected to launch the CNG version in mid and top trim of the hatchback and sedan, though nothing is confirmed as of now. The CNG segment in India is currently occupied by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai with a myriad of vehicles. On one hand, Maruti has the likes of Alto CNG, Wagon R CNG, and Ertiga CNG while on the other hand, Hyundai has Santro CNG and Aura CNG in its portfolio. One point worth mentioning here is that upon the introduction of Tigor CNG, it will become the only vehicle in India with petrol, CNG and all-electric versions.

Tata Tiago CNG and Tata Tigor CNG will use the same 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine as the regular version. Though power output and torque delivery are expected to witness a partial drop from 85 bhp and 113 Nm, respectively. Though the petrol-only version of hatchback and sedan come equipped with both manual and AMT gearbox options, the CNG variants are believed to come only with a manual transmission. Also, the new models could flaunt a CNG badge in order to distinguish themselves from the standard version. The feature list is expected to be retained. Tata Tiago CNG will directly rival Maruti Wagon R CNG and Hyundai Santro CNG while Tata Tigor CNG will lock horns with Hyundai Aura CNG.
