Tata ready to bring H2X’s electric version to India.

Tata revealed a lot of models at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that included the H2X, Altroz, Altroz EV, Buzzard and the Buzzard Sport. The Indian maker had stated that they will bring the H2X concept in production form as a micro-SUV in the Indian market. Now the company has stated that they will indeed launch the electric H2X SUV in India. This would mean that apart from the electrified versions of Tiago, Tigor and the upcoming Altroz, the H2X’s production electric version would be the 4th Tata car to get the electric treatment for the Indian market.

Tata Motors’ managing director, Guenter Butschek recently spoke about the company’s plans for electric vehicles and their dedication to bringing cleaner fuel vehicles to the Indian market and said,

“We have ensured that future architectures Alpha and Omega both are future-protected for EVs. Apart from working on higher range of Tigor and Tiago EV, our first two offerings on the Alpha architecture will have an EV option,”

What must be noted here is that the electric versions of Altroz and H2X will both use the brand’s new platform -- ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced). Apart from sharing the platform the new vehicles will also be designed on the basis of brand’s IMPACT 2.0 design policy as the company seeks to move toward more uniform design language across its model range.

As far as the internals of the electric version of the Altroz premium hatchback are concerned, the new electric car will come with a permanent magnet AC electric motor, but the brand has not revealed the battery capacity of the vehicle yet. What the company has hinted at is that the new Altroz electric hatchback could have a range of around 250-300 kilometers and the battery will come with the fast charge option that will enable the car to juice up to 80% in just an hour.

Next comes the electric version of the upcoming H2X micro-SUV. The upcoming vehicle will chiefly rival the upcoming electric version of Mahindra KUV100, though the latter will launch their EV before Tata. There is no more news on the H2X electric vehicle so far, though one can expect it to feature the same range as the Altroz premium hatchback’s electric version and come with fast charge option as well because the Mahindra KUV100 is rumored to have the fast charge option.

As already stated, the electric version of H2X micro-SUV will be the fourth electric vehicle in the brand’s line-up when it is launched in the market. With the confirmation of the electric version of H2X the company has indeed sent out a strong message regarding its commitment to electric vehicles in the Indian market.
