Tata to launch Tiago facelift model by mid-June?

Tata Tiago is the top seller in the company’s model line-up in India. The car was launched in the Indian market almost 3 years ago and the company has since then constantly given the car minor updates so as to keep it fresh in the market. The Indian maker also offers a lot of variants of the Tiago so as to provide an option to every customer in the market. The variants of Tiago range from entry level hatchback to a crossover version to a performance version of the same. However, despite the minor updates the sales of the car has been losing a bit of its steam and in order to keep the sales momentum going the company is soon going to launch the facelifted version of Tiago. Not just the Tiago, but the crossover version of the hatch the Tiago NRG is also due to be facelifted.

This will be the first major facelift for the Tiago ever since it was launched in the Indian market three years ago in 2019. Now there are reports on the internet claiming that the updated facelift models of Tiago will arrive in the market as soon as June 2019.

It was only recently that the company made BNVSAP safety features standard on all variants of Tiago. Now the facelift will make sure that the car remains an attractive option at least for a couple of years in the future. The upcoming facelift for Tiago and the crossover version are supposed to come with enough changes to keep them new but not major changes. One can hope that the models come with a few aesthetic tweaks as far as the exterior is concerned and the interiors may also see some feature additions and a minor overhaul of the cabin area. The performance version of the hatchback, known as the Tiago JTP will also receive the updates that the Tiago will get with the facelifted model.

There are hopes that the maker will implement the latest IMPACT design philosophy of the brand with the facelift of the Tiago. The same design language is already seen on models from the company like the Harrier and the upcoming Altroz as well as Cassini.

The upcoming BS-VI norms are also less than a year away and Tata Motors has already made clear that the upcoming norms will see the maker dropping diesel engines from the smaller cars in its line-up. This means that the future of Tata Tiago may hold only petrol engines as the diesel model will be dropped by the company. As of now, the petrol engine on the Tiago is a 1.2L unit that is rated to deliver 84 Bhp and 150 Nm. Tata also offers a turbo version of the same engine and that delivers 112 Bhp and 150 Nm. Meanwhile the 1.1L diesel engine is likely to face the axe for the reasons stated above. However, the diesel will be discontinued only in 2020 and diesel lovers can buy a diesel engine Tiago before the brand axes the model.
