Tesla will be rolling out its first electric car named ‘Model 3’ this year in the country. The American EV company has already registered itself in Bengaluru earlier this year. Now according to a media report, Tesla will establish its India headquarter in Lower-Parel, Mumbai. The company is evaluating a few commercial projects for a 40,000 sq ft office.
Tesla has already hired a few top executives in India. An IIM Bangalore alumni, Manuj Khurana has been appointed as the Head of Policy & Business Development for India operations. Moving on, the company has hired Nishant Prasad as the Charging Manager. Nishant will be heading Tesla's supercharging, destination charging, and home charging business. Earlier, Nishant was heading the charging infrastructure and energy storage at the homegrown electric vehicle company Ather Energy. Besides these, Tesla has appointed Chithra Thomas as its Country HR Leader. Chithra was earlier a part of Walmart and Reliance Retail. Recently, Union Road Transport and Highway Minister, Nitin Gadkari during his address at the Raisina Dialogue 2021, has invited Tesla to start manufacturing EVs in the country.
Talking about Tesla Model 3, it is an entry-level sedan in the American company’s lineup. First rolled out in 2017, it is considered to be one of the most affordable and best selling all-electric cars globally. Currently, it is sold in four variants - Standard Range (RWD), Standard Range Plus (RWD), Long Range (AWD), and Long Range Performance (AWD). Also, it will be imported as a CBU in India.
