List of affordable SUVs in the Indian market with great street presence.

SUV sales have been on the rise in India, and it is pretty evident that the Indian public loves the ground clearance and the bold road presence that the SUVs brings to the equation. However, the SUVs themselves have changed by a huge margin over the years. Gone are the days when the SUVs were the wild children of the car segments that came with rugged and boxy looks ready to take on any terrain. The demand by city-dwelling customers had made the car makers go the route of curves as far as the design of SUVs are concerned. The new SUVs in the market come with curvier looks than before, but they also maintain the imposing stance and presence that is at the very core of SUV DNA. While the more affordable sub-4 meter SUVs may not score points on the road presence front, there still are a few options as far as affordable SUVs with massive street presence are concerned. Let’s take a look at some of those options in the market.

Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier created quite a buzz in the market on its launch and has been in the news ever since. Despite being in the compact SUV segment, the size of the SUV and the IMPACT 2.0 design of the company go a long way in arming the latest Tata SUV with a lot of street presence. Not to forget that the unique headlamp and DRL setup also arms the Harrier with a futuristic design, at least in the Indian market and also goes a long way in increasing the road presence of the SUV.

Force Gurkha

Armed with Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen inspired looks, the Force Gurkha still keeps the boxy design of the SUV alive although with a more classy flair. The Gurkha is also a very capable SUV as far as off-roading is concerned and not to mention the factory-fitted snorkel makes the Gurkha stand apart on the road.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar maintains the true-blue design of the Jeep and reminds one of the time when SUVs were considered work horses that will take on any challenge thrown in front of them. Thar is also very capable in the off-roading department and the immense modification potential that the SUV comes with only serves as icing on the cake for customers who are looking for a SUV with massive street presence.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio has come to define the modern SUV of India. With more than half a decade in the market, the imposing design and aggressive looks of the SUV have gone on to carve a separate niche for the Mahindra SUV. Not to mention that the frequent use of the Scorpio by politicians and it being featured in Bollywood movies has only added to the street presence of the SUV.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross has become the most recognizable lifestyle pick-up truck in the country, and that can be attributed to the daunting size and the rarity of such vehicles in the Indian market. The off-roading prowess of the pick-up along with the bulletproof reliability of Isuzu has made the pick-up truck a sleeper hit in the country.

Mahindra XUV500

Right after the Scorpio, premium XUV500 features a crossover design that makes the SUV very imposing on the streets of India. The Cheetah-inspired design of the SUV only adds to the appeal of the 7-seater Mahindra in the market.

Mahindra TUV300

While the sub-4 meter compact SUVs do not offer street presence to write home about, Mahindra TUV300 is one among the two exceptions. The boxy design along with large front headlamps only add to the street presence of the SUV. Also, the customization options offered by the maker go a long way in adding to the street presence of the SUV.

Tata Hexa

What Tata failed to achieve with the Aria, it hit it right home with the Hexa. The first vehicle to feature the new design philosophy of the company, Hexa is one of the more butch offerings by the company. The 7-seater comes with looks that make it appear like an offering that is very expensive.

Tata Safari Storme

When Tata produced the Safari, it went on to achieve a status that even the very popular Mahindra Scorpio cannot boast of today. The Storme version of Safari only capitalized on the status and offered an even butch look that added to the already massive street presence that the original Safari offered.

Mahindra Bolero

The other entry from the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment on the list is the Mahindra Bolero. Despite being shortened for tax benefits, the Bolero still maintains its iconic look along with aggressive presence on the roads of the country. No wonder then that even after so many years in the market, the Bolero still pulls in very good sales numbers for the company.
