Delhi Auto Expo held this year saw some major brands unveil their Concept Cars. This further indicated the futuristic designing trends and the automobile industry’s shift towards India 2.0. Some of the concepts have already been launched in the market. While there are others whose launch is expected to take place next year. Here is our list of the ‘Top 7 Concept Cars’ unveiled by different automakers.


Renault Kiger


Renault India unveiled the subcompact SUV Kiger Concept last month. As per the company, the production model will be 80 percent like the Concept recently revealed. The SUV will make its debut in the Indian market anytime next year. It will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance ‘s CMFA+ platform. We can expect it to be priced at Rs 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Cosmetically, the concept features a grille which offers a Renault logo with two slats on either side, two-level LED headlights, neon-coloured indicators, a skid plate, and C-shaped tail-lamps. Mechanically, the upcoming Kiger will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. There will also be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol unit on sale. Both these engines will be offered with manual and CVT transmissions. 


Skoda Vision IN



The Czech automaker, Skoda unveiled its mid-size SUV Concept Vision IN based on the Volkswagen MQB AO-IN platform at Auto Expo this year. We can expect the Vision IN crossover to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2021. Its launch will take place in mid-2021. The crossover has been spotted doing test runs on the Indian road quite a few times in the past. We can further expect it to fall in the price bracket of Rs 10 lakhs - Rs 16 lakhs (ex-showroom). In terms of design, the production version is said to be identical to the Skoda Vision IN Concept that was unveiled earlier this year. Furthermore, it will share mechanical components with that of Volkswagen Taigun. From the spy shots, the test mule was seen featuring the signature Skoda grille. In addition, it gets sleek headlights, dual trapezoidal fog lamps, and L-shaped taillights. Under the bonnet, it will be offered with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol unit linked to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. There could also be a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine on offer coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox.


Tata HBX (Hornbill)



Tata Motors is likely to launch its sub-4-metre SUV, Hornbill in May next year. The mini-SUV was first showcased as Tata HBX Concept at the Auto Expo this year. Furthermore, it has been spotted doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past. The upcoming Hornbill will feature the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language. Cosmetically, it will provide Tata’s signature tri-arrow design on the air dam and Tata’s ‘Humanity Line’ front grille. In addition to this, it will also get LED headlamps with slim LED DRLs. We can expect the mini-SUV to come equipped with a plethora of segment-first features. Mechanically, it will be powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine. The top-end variants are expected to be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor. Transmission options should include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes.


Tata Sierra




Tata Motors showcased its Sierra EV Concept at the Auto Exhibition held earlier this year. It is an all-electric concept SUV that pays homage to the legendary Sierra SUV. There is no confirmation about the launch of the SUV in the Indian market. The Sierra EV is built on the ALFA platform. The SUV in the concept form features a honeycomb-pattern grille upfront. It also gets front bumper with fog lamps on either side. Its side profile features a set of alloy wheels. Having showcased the electric version, if brought into production the vehicle could offer both petrol and diesel power trains.


Maruti Futuro-e Concept


Maruti Suzuki pulled the wraps off its SUV Concept, Futuro E at the Auto Expo this year. In its concept form, the Futuro-e gets a sleek pair of LED headlamps that run along the width of the car. Towards the rear, it gets large tail lamps which wrap-around to the side profile of the car. Furthermore, it offers a four-seat layout. The front two seats can swirl around to face the rear passenger seats. Inside the cabin, the concept boasts of blue and ivory theme. It’s steering gets a futuristic layout. While a widescreen housing various controls is present across the dashboard. Performance-wise it will be available with a wide array of powertrain options like a hybrid and pure EV.


Nissan Magnite Concept




Nissan Motor India recently launched the Magnite SUV in the price range of Rs 4.99 lakh - Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi CMF-A + platform. Furthermore, it is offered in four grades - XE, XL, XV, and XV Premium. In terms of design, the SUV features an octagonal grille inspired by Datsun upfront. It further gets sleek halogen headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs. Other design highlights include LED tail-lamp clusters, fog lamps, and skid plates. Inside the cabin, the Magnite comes equipped with first-in-segment features. These include an 8-inch touchscreen unit integrated with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument panel with a 7-inch TFT MID, among others. Performance-wise, it is offered with two petrol engine options - 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbocharged units. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard with both the engines. The 1.0-litre turbocharged also get a CVT gearbox as an option. 


Kia Sonet Concept



Kia Motors India showcased its subcompact SUV, Kia Sonet at Auto Expo this year. The company launched the SUV also in September this year in the price range of Rs 6.71 lakh - Rs 11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). The SUV is offered in two trims - Tech Line and GT Line. Cosmetically, it features Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille. It further flaunts heartbeat-shaped LED DRLs. Other design bits include LED headlamps, LED taillights, a rear diffuser, exhaust pipes, among others. The cabin comes equipped with a host of segment-first features. These include ventilated front seats, a smart pure air purifier with virus & bacteria protection, a 4.2-inch colour instrument cluster, Bose 7-speaker sound system, and the largest in segment 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & Navigation. The SUV also comes equipped with UVO Connect with Voice Assist along with 57 connected features and a 3-year subscription. Mechanically, it is offered with three engine options - a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder T-GDi petrol, and 1.5-litre CRDi diesel. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual(petrol), 6-speed iMT(petrol), 7-speed DCT automatic, 6-speed manual(diesel), and 6-speed automatic.
