Tork Motors’ T6X Electric Bike To Launch in India by End of 2019

Tork T6X to hit Indian markets by year end.

There are reports claiming that Tork Motors has announced that their first model in the market the T6X electric bike will be launched by the end of this year. The company has been busy developing the bike for quite some time now and the year end launch means that the bike is now in its final stages of production. This confirms the rumors about the launch of bike that had caught wind when the same was spotted testing on Indian roads in January earlier this year. As of now, there are no players in the market that are aiming to launch an electric bike in the market. While companies like Okinawa and Ather already have their electric scooters in the market, companies like TVS are planning on introducing electric scooters by the end of the current financial year. However, none of the established players in the market have announced the plans to launch and electric bike in the market.

Tork is a Pune based company that according to them has been working on electric vehicle technology for the past decade now. However, coming back to T6X, the upcoming electric bike will come with a 72 Ah Lithium-ion battery pack that will come with the fast charging capability of 80 percent of charging in an hour. What will be major advantage for the T6X will be the light weight of just 130 kgs, this weight will help the bike achieve a normal cruising speed of 100 kmph. The electric bike will come equipped with a BLDC motor that is rated for 6 kW and 27 Nm. As far as the range goes, the company claims that the bike will come with a range of 100 kilometres per charge when the speed is 100 km/h. The added advantage that the electric bike will have is that of instantaneous torque delivery.

As far as other details of the bike are concerned, the bike will come with regenerative brakes meaning that the braking energy will be used to recharge the battery pack of the bike. The braking duties on the bike will be handled by a 267mm disc brake at front and a 220mm unit at the back. On the features front, the T6X will come with a digital TFT screen, navigation, utility box, mobile charging, smartphone app support, anti-theft system, Geo-Fencing, and LED DRLs among others. Kapil Shelke, the chief executive officer of Tork Motors spoke about the company’s direction and the upcoming bike and stated, “Instead of going all out, we will prefer to see the market reception and slowly build it from there”.

Currently the startup in working on setting up a factory in Chakan near Pune and the upcoming factory will be able to roll out 20,000 units in a year. The estimated cost of the factory is supposed to be around Rs 6-7 crore. The CEO of the company also said, “The assembly will start then. The company will give a touch and feel of the bike through the experience centres”.
