Toyota has unveiled the eighth generation of Camry in Thailand. This generation is already being tested in India and the launch of this car is expected to be in 2019. The India spec car is expected to carry the similar styling and equipment.

The next-gen Camry is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TGNA). The wheelbase of the car is longer than before, so expect some more space on the inside. The car is longer, wider but shorter than the outgoing model. The car gets automatic LED headlights and taillights.

The interiors of the vehicle offer a very premium feel. It gets eight-way adjustable front seats, keyless entry, start/stop button, wireless charging, leather upholstery and 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster as standard equipment. The higher trim additionally comes with lumbar adjustment and ventilated front seats, heads-up-display (HUD), reclining rear seats, onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, JBL sound system and three-zone climate control.

Safety-wise the car comes with vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS, EBD, brake assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, hill-start assist and seven airbags as standard. However, the top trim gets an anti-collision system, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beam and nine airbags.

The Camry is available in two petrol engines and one hybrid unit. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine makes 167 PS and 199 Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, while there is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 209 PS and 250 Nm and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid technology is integrated with the 2.5-litre engine and is mated to an e-CVT. The 6.5 Ah nickel-metal hydrid battery is located under the rear seat for a lower centre of gravity and without compromising the boot space.
