Toyota Hilux will share several components with the Innova and the Fortuner

Toyota India is all set to launch the Hilux pick-up truck in the coming months in the country. Our friends at AutoCar India have reported that Toyota Hilux will share several components with the Innova and the Fortuner, so that it can be priced aggressively against the recently launched Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which comes in a price range of Rs 16.98-24.49 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Though, it is not confirmed yet whether Toyota Hilux will undercut Isuzu D-Max Cross in terms of pricing or it will be launched at premium price than it.

Toyota Hilux measures more than 5 metres in length while having a wheelbase of 3 metres. It is fairly longer than the Fortuner and the Innova but identical to the D-Max V-Cross. The pick-up truck will flaunt sweptback headlamps with bi-projector LED lights with DRLs upfront. In addition, it will boast of the signature Toyota front grille in hexagonal shape. Other exterior highlights will include alloy wheels, LED tail-lamp cluster and chrome accents. The cabin is likely to be similar to that of Fortuner and Innova with the same seats, upholstery and features. The top-end variants might also get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard feature.

The Thailand-bound Toyota Hilux was recently awarded the highest 5-star safety rating in ASEAN NCAP crash tests. Mechanically, it could be equipped with the Innova's 2.4L diesel engine which delivers 150 bhp of top power. The entry-level trims will be offered in 2WD mode. The higher variants could get the heavier and more powerful 2.8L diesel mill which churns out 204 bhp. It will be available with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. Toyota might well also introduce a 4x4 drive system with the range-topping variants. The pick-up truck segment has not been explored much by the automakers in India as compared to other international markets and hence, the arrival of Toyota hilux could compell other brands like Ford and Hyundai to bring their respective products - F150 and Santa Cruz - in the country.
