Toyota Hilux pick-up truck is based on the same IMV-2 architecture as the Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV

The pick-up truck segment in India is going to get an all-new offering very soon as Toyota India is gearing up for the launch of the Hilux in the country, claims an AutoCar India report. Till now, Isuzu D-Max V-Cross had a free run in this segment as it was the one and only pick-up truck on sale in the Indian market. But things are going to change now with the arrival of Toyota Hilux. For those asking, the Hilux pick-up truck is based on the same IMV-2 architecture as the Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV.

Toyota Hilux measures 5,285 mm in length which is way longer than both the Innova and Fortuner. In addition, it comes with a wheelbase of 3,085mm. The India-spec Toyota Hilux will be available in a double-cab configuration. The front fascia will flaunt the signature hexagonal grille which will be massive in size. It will be complimented by sweptback headlamps and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The wheel arches will be flared while cladding will run across the side profile. It will get a side step for easy ingress as standard feature. The rear profile will boast of simplistic styling with sculpted tail-lamps. The cabin could be offered with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

Mechanically, Toyota Hilux in India could be introduced with a couple of diesel engines. It could use the Innova's 2.4L unit while the range-topping variants could be equipped with Fortuner's bigger and more powerful 2.8L engine. The former develops top power of 150 bhp while the latter churns out maximum power output of 180 bhp. The transmission choices could include both manual and automatic units. The 2.8L diesel engine could also get a 4x4 drive system also. Toyota Hilux price in India could start from Rs 25 Lakhs and go as high as Rs 35 Lakhs for the range-topping variant (Ex. Showroom). This aggressive pricing could be achieved as it will share major parts, panels and components with the Innova and Fortuner.
