With the advent of BS6 norms, it is going to be a turning point for the Indian automobile industry. With all of these regulations coming into effect, Indian buyers will get to see some new cars on the showroom floors. While we have already witnessed the launch of some of the highly anticipated vehicles in the current year, there is a lot more coming up in the next couple of years. The sub 10 lakh four-wheeler space has always been the most popular segment in India. Moreover, this segment is expected to see highest number of car launches this year.

Force Gurkha 2020

Force Motors unveiled its off-roader Gurkha at the Auto Expo 2020. Expected to be launched in June this year, Gurkha is likely to be priced between Rs 9.75 lakhs - Rs 13.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). This off-roading beast gets an all-new bodyshell while being introduced in two-trims namely Customized and Standard. It gets completely new bumpers and a fresh set of headlights with DRLs. Riding on 17-inch alloys, it is powered by a 2.6-litre, 4-cylinder BS6 diesel engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The New Force Gurkha features windshield guard, luggage carrier and rear ladder. The cabin comes with a major update, thus making it more practical and comfortable. It also gets manual locking differentials for both the axles.

Nissan Magnite

Nissan Magnite is scheduled to be launched in August 2020. The price is likely to start at Rs 5.25 lakhs (ex-showroom). This sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber and the upcoming HBC compact SUV.  The Nissan Magnite will be offered in multiple variants when launched. The base model will get the recently upgraded version of Renault BR10 engine that also powers the Renault Triber. This three-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor produces 72 bhp power and 96 Nm torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. An AMT option with the BR10 is also a possibility. Higher variants of the Magnite will get Nissan’s HR10 engine. This 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine will churn out 95 bhp power. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual and a CVT as an option. Not many details have been revealed about the features yet. However, it is likely to get a panoramic sunroof, LED DRLs, LED taillights, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system and steering-mounted audio controls. 

Next-Gen Hyundai i20

 

Hyundai Nex-Gen i20

Hyundai is all set to launch the next-gen Hyundai i20 in the mid-2020. It is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakhs - Rs 11 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The company has already released the details and images of the new model for the global markets. Slightly bigger in size, it will boast a sportier design. The front fascia gets a sleeker grille with all-new headlamp clusters featuring DRLs. The rear end gets ‘Z’-shaped LED taillights connected via reflector light strips. The cabin boasts of a completely new steering wheel that guards a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster. Mechanically, for India, the car is expected to arrive in three engine configurations: a 1.2-litre MPi unit producing 99 bhp power, a 1.0-litre T-GDi engine that will belt out 83 bhp and, a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi oil mill producing 99 bhp of power output.

Kia Stonic

Kia Motors is expected to launch Stonic towards the second half of this year. The SUV was on display in Auto Expo 2020 and is likely to be priced at Rs 9.0 lakhs (ex-showroom). It gets the signature Kia Tiger nose grille, sleek headlights with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights, wide air intake, black fog lamp housing, flared wheel arches and wraparound tail lamps. The interior of Kia Stonic will feature a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and boasts of technologies like Forward Collision Alert, Blind Spot Detection with Red Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition. It will be offered in multiple powertrain choices including a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo producing 118 bhp, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel engine.

 

Renault Triber AMT

Renault is gearing up for the launch of Triber AMT in mid-2020. It is likely to be priced between Rs 4.99 lakhs - Rs 6.78 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). The Triber AMT will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre  petrol motor that will produce 71 bhp power and 96 Nm torque. Like the Renault Kwid, Triber AMT will have the five-speed AMT gearbox connected to the engine. Renault has equipped the MPV with rotary dial for gear selection just like they did with Renault Kwid. Triber AMT will be available in two variants- RTX and RXZ. In terms of features, the Triber AMT offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, a 7-seat modular seating layout with AC vents for all three rows, and projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The new 7-seater car is different from the earlier model and comes with the option to remove the last row seats.
