Tata Tigor turbo petrol variant has been spotted doing test runs in Mumbai under heavy camouflage

Tata Motors India is planning to introduce a host of new models in the country. These new introductions will include a full-size SUV and micro-SUV. Apart from these, the company will also be bringing a turbo-petrol variant of its existing compact sedan - Tigor. Recently, the model was spied doing test runs wearing heavy camouflage in Mumbai. The images for the same have leaked online.

From the spied images, we can make out that the upcoming Tigor turbo petrol sports a similar design to the regular model of Tata Tigor. However, the new model misses out on additional body graphics and decals that were found on the Tigor JTP Edition. Tata Motors had launched the powerful variant of the compact sedan dubbed as Tigor JTP. It came with a slightly tweaked suspension setup and reduced height. The equipment list consisted of 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a rear parking camera, rear wiper with defogger among others. The model was also powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivered 114 bhp power and 150 Nm torque in its BS4 format. Furthermore, due to low sales volume and demand for high-performance machines in the Indian market, the company had to discontinue the Tigor JTP.

Coming back to the 2021 Tigor turbo-petrol, its interior details have not been revealed yet. However, we can expect its layout to be similar to the regular model. It is also likely to get a sporty look. Performance-wise, the upcoming Tigor turbo petrol variant will draw its power from a 1.2-litre engine. The company does not intend to launch another JTP model in the market. Instead, it could also be a new smaller capacity power unit developed in-house by the brand. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the turbo petrol model of Hyundai Aura in its segment.
