December saw mixed fortunes for carmakers. Maruti, Tata Motors and Honda registered strong growth while Mahindra, Ford and Toyota saw a dip, while Hyundai saw flat growth.
The company posted double-digit growth in December, selling 1,18,560 units in December, compared to 1,06,388 units in the same period last year. The top sellers for Maruti were the Alto and Wagon R, which sold 32,146 units combined.
The company’s sales growth was only 0.3 percent. Volumes stood at 40,158 units – up from 40,057 units in December 2016.
The company sold 15,543 units – a decline of 7 percent, when compared to the 16,799 units in December 2016.
Tata Motors
Thanks to three new products – the Tigor, Hexa and Nexon – in its line-up, volumes saw a sharp rise. The company sold 14,180 units in December as against 10,827 units last year, up 31 percent.
Toyota Kirloskar
Toyota’s sales dipped to 10,793 units, compared to 12,747 units in the previous year, down 15.32 percent. Sales of the Camry Hybrid were negatively impacted following higher taxation on hybrid vehicles under GST.
Honda Cars India
Honda saw 26 percent growth in December 2017 at 12,642 units against 10,071 units in December 2016.
Ford India
Ford’s sales dipped by 8.6 percent in volumes at 5,087 units, compared to 5,566 units last year.
