The company has begun accepting bookings, with deliveries set to begin by end of January 2018.

The company has released prices ahead of the car’s official launch on January 20, 2018. Prices start at ₹78.83 lakh for the base 2.0-litre diesel, and the fully-loaded version costs ₹1.37 crore.

The Velar is sold with three engines – a 179hp, 2.0-litre diesel, a 250hp, 2.0-litre petrol and the 300hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel. There are five variants on offer with each engine – starting with the base variant, going up to S, SE, HSE, R-Dynamic, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE and the R-Dynamic HSE. At the top of the line, you can get the Velar 3.0-litre diesel in a First Edition.

The Velar sees the debut of the company’s 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine in India. The carmaker's 250hp version of the Ingenium engine will be available here, and it is said to deliver up to 25 percent more power than the engine it replaces, while using 15 percent less fuel.

Land Rover has said that its Velar is its most road-focused SUV yet. It currently sits between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport in the company’s line-up. The SUV comes with the company’s off-road technology, including Hill Descent Control (HDC) that comes as standard, the Terrain Response 2 and an active rear-locking e-differential. Power is sent to all four wheels via a standard ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic.

On the inside, there’s a new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which uses two 10-inch touchscreens.
