NGT has recommended Rs. 171 crores fine on Volkswagen for emissions scandal

National Green Tribunal (NGT) has come up with a huge Rs. 171 crores fine on Volkswagen for emissions scandal in India. The committee has fined the German carmaker for causing air pollution in Delhi due to excess nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in the national capital. This penalty was made on the basis of 3.27 lakh VW cars in India having the deceiving software.

"The Volkswagen Group reiterates that all cars from the Group are compliant with the emission norms in India. The order of the Honourable NGT is already under challenge before the Honourable Supreme Court. However, The Volkswagen Group India will comply with the order of Honourable National Green Tribunal (NGT) and deposit the money, as directed.” Volkswagen Group India Spokesperson.

Despite the NGT order being under challenge in Supreme Court, Volkswagen will pay Rs. 100 crores fine. The German automaker claims that all the diesel cars offered in India comply with the current emission norms of the country. VW has lost a lot of money globally due to the dieselgate scandal which has spread recently in India too.
