Famed German automaker Volkswagen is on its way to launch facelifted versions of Polo hatchback and Vento sedan in India. While the two cars are now expected to get new styling elements from Volkswagen Polo GTI, there will be many more features in the new versions to keep them fresh for buyers. Both these cars have been around in the country for close to 9 years and sell a couple of thousand units every month. What has maintained public interest in these cars is Volkswagen's strategy to continuously update these cars.
With the latest facelift, the company can also make these cars Bharat Stage 6-compliant. This means these two cars might now get a 1 liter-3 cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine to meet new government emission norms. The engine will be tuned differently for power and torque outputs in the two cars.
The new Polo and Vento have been sees testing on Indian roads several times now and reports are out that the cars have begun reaching Volkswagen dealerships across India. This means an official launch is just around the corner.
The new photos show that GTI dominated the styling aspect of the two cars in the form of front grille now featuring a honeycomb pattern, roofs getting a black wrap, and the alloy wheels greyed out. The Polo and Vento also get hatch-lid and boot-lid spoilers now. There are sporty bumper inserts in black and side skirts have been added as well.
The new engine to be offered in the Polo will likely be tuned for 94 Bhp power output while the GT TSI and Vento will get an engine tuned to generated 115 Bhp power. Peak torque in this car could go up to 200 Nm torque. It will be coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the higher state of tune is expected to get the 7-speed PQ200 twin clutch automatic gearbox option. Some reports suggest that the new engine will be offered on the new Skoda Rapid as well which shares its platform and mechanicals with Polo and Vento.
We all know that the new emission control norms, BS-6, will come into effect in India from April 2020. Until then, its good news for diesel-engine lovers as Volkswagen is likely to continue offering the 1.5-liter TDI turbocharged diesel engine that comes in two states of tuning with Polo and Vento: 89 Bhp power and 220 Nm torque and 110 Bhp power and 250 torque. Once these emission norms come into place, the diesel variants will be pulled out of the market. Volkswagen will then shift to turbo petrol engines from next year and a larger 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine will be offered on the next-generation Vento, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2021.
