Volkswagen has started teasing the Nivus coupe-SUV ahead of its debut in the South American markets. The Nivus is based on the latest generation of Polo hatchback which is sold in several global markets. Volkswagen Nivus appears identical to the India-spec Taigun SUV, save for the more sporty body type. It is expected to go on sale in Brazil soon. The official details regarding the interior and engine specifications is expected to be out in a month's time alongwith the clear pictures.
Going by the teaser image, Volkswagen Nivus appears similar to India-spec Taigun SUV as far as dimensions are concenred. Even the exterior styling of Nivus too matches the Taigun, except for the roofline which is different due to it being a coupe-SUV. Underpinning the same MQB A0 architecture as the latest-generation model of Polo hatchback in global markets, it has a wheelbase of 2566mm which is quite less than that of Taigun's 2651mm. Though, its length of 4266mm exceeds the length of Taigun comfortably. The cabin is believed to feature VW's new 8.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system alongside a 10-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include an adaptive autopilot system, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and automatic post-collision braking.
Under the hood, Volkswagen Nivus will have a 1.0L turbocharged TSI petrol engine which also does duties to the Brazil-spec Polo hatchback. This engine generates a top power of 126bhp with ethanol and 114bhp with petrol while paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission with the Brazilian model of Polo. The Nivus is also expected to have identical power output and gearbox. The company has not said anything on the India launch of Nivus as it already has planned to launch four SUV models in the country and out of which, two have already been launched in the form of Tiguan AllSpace and T-Roc. Volkswagen will launch the Taigun SUV by mid of 2021 in India.
