The car will sit below the Tiguan in VW's line-up.

The company has taken the wraps of its T-Roc SUV, which will make its public debut at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show. The car will be positioned below the Tiguan and will be offered with the choice of three petrol and two diesel engines in different states of tune.

The T-Roc was first previewed as a concept car at the 2014 Geneva motor show. The car is built on the company’s versatile MQB platform. VW boss Herbert Diess added that the new T-Roc would be "the new agility benchmark" in the class.

The car will be offered with a host of equipment, including the latest version of VW’s 11.3-inch active info display digital instrument pack, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display that comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, an inductive smartphone charge plate and a 300-watt, eight-channel Bose sound system.

In the UK, the car will be available with five turbocharged engines, including three petrol units and two diesel motors. Gearbox options include a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual shift automatic gearbox, and the car is available in either front or four-wheel-drive.

The T-Roc also features driver assistant systems. Standard on all models are features like automatic post-collision braking and a front monitoring system. A driver alert system is available on more premium variants.

Optional extras include including road sign display, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic jam assist, emergency assist, proactive occupant protection, main beam assist and park assist.
