Volkswagen India has launched the Taigun SUV in a price range of Rs 10.50-17.49 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India) in the country. Being available in two trims namely Dynamic Line and Performance Line, Volkswagen Taigun is offered in a total of four engine transmission choices. The Dynamic Line trim comes in three variants in the form of Comfortline, Highline and Topline while the Performance Line can be availed in two variants - GT and GT Plus. Volkswagen Taigun will rival Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor in the Indian market.
Being the first Volkswagen product under the India 2.0 project, the Taigun flaunts massive LED headlamps with daytime running lamps (DRLs) and twin-slat chrome grille. In addition, the lower portion of the front bumper also gets chrome inserts. Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels, the rear profile of the SUV boasts of an LED tail lamp cluster which runs across the entire width of the tail gate while the bumper is equipped with chrome garnishing. It is offered in five color choices namely Wild Cherry Red, Curcuma Yellow, Candy White, Reflex Silver and Carbon Steel Grey.
The cabin appears minimalistic with a few elements resembling the Skoda Kushaq such as the switchgear. The 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system which comes with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and My Volkswagen connect app has been integrated in the dashboard which looks different than that of the Kushaq. The AC vents too have a distinct styling while other notable features include an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, wireless charging, USC charging ports, sunroof and cooled glovebox & front seats. As for safety, the SUV gets 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-hold control, tyre pressure deflation warning and rear parking camera. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) comes as standard fitment.
Volkswagen has introduced the Taigun SUV with two turbocharged petrol engines - 1.0L 3-cylinder and 1.5L 4-cylinder. Both these engines have already been seen in Skoda Kushaq. The former makes top power of 115 bhp and peak torque of 175 Nm while the latter belts out 150 bhp and 250 Nm. Both the engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.0L motor also comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission while the 1.5L engine can be availed with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. The bigger 1.5L TSI engine also boasts of cylinder deactivation technology. Volkswagen Taigun will be locally developed at the company's Pune facility while the bookings had started last month in the country.
