Volkswagen's Taigun has emerged as a resounding success for the automaker, playing a pivotal role in Volkswagen's INDIA 2.0 strategy alongside other notable models like the Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, and Skoda Slavia. Notably, all these vehicles have already garnered impressive 5-star ratings in the Global NCAP crash tests. Expanding on this achievement, the Taigun recently underwent rigorous testing in the Latin NCAP crash test, successfully earning a commendable 5-star rating.
During the Latin NCAP crash test, the evaluated Taigun model boasted an impressive range of safety features, including six airbags, an Electronic Stability Program, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. In terms of safety ratings, the SUV achieved exceptional scores, with 92 percent for adult protection, 92 percent for child protection, 55 percent for pedestrian and vulnerable road user protection, and 83 percent for the safety assist system.
It is worth mentioning that the crash-tested Taigun model was manufactured in India. However, it is important to note that the India-specific Taigun variant does not feature Autonomous Emergency Braking. Instead, it is equipped with essential safety components such as Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution, Multi-Collision Brakes, Brake Disc Wiping, Brake Assist, Anti-Slip Regulation, Electronic Differential Lock System, Tire Pressure Deflation Warning, Seat-belt reminders, and front dual airbags as standard offerings. The higher-end variants of the SUV also provide additional safety features like Hill Start Assist, front-side airbags, and curtain airbags.
In the Indian market, the Taigun is currently available in two trim levels: Dynamic and Performance, and it comes in a range of five captivating color schemes. The Dynamic Line comprises three variants, namely Comfortline, Highline, and Topline, while the Performance Line offers two variants, namely GT and GT Plus.
Under the Dynamic Line, the Taigun is equipped with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine, capable of generating a maximum power of 113 bhp and a peak torque of 178 Nm. Customers have the choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the Performance Line of the Taigun is powered by a robust 1.5-liter EVO TSI petrol engine, delivering an impressive maximum power output of 148 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. It is offered with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
For interested buyers in India, the Taigun is attractively priced, starting from ₹11.62 lakh and going up to ₹19.46 lakh (ex-showroom). With its stellar safety performance, well-rounded features, and captivating design, the Taigun has firmly established itself as a leading contender in the highly competitive SUV segment in India.
