The XC40 will be based on the company’s new Compact Modular Architecture platform, and is targeted at a more youthful audience. It will offer a longer list of customisable options as well.
The car will be revealed sometime around the Frankfurt motor show. The XC40 will most probably be powered by a new, three-pot, 1.5-litre petrol unit and a range of petrol and diesel engines. The company may also introduce a 180hp hybrid model that’s coupled to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The car will be front-wheel-drive and can cover a distance of 48km on a full charge.
Three variants for the XC40 have been confirmed – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription. When launched, the car will be pit against Jaguar’s E-Pace, Mercedes-Benz’ GLA, BMW’s X1, Audi’s Q3 and the Range Rover Evoque. Volvo hasn’t revealed any other details yet.
