Volvo Car India has produced its 10,000th made-in-India car in India, marking a new milestone this year. The automaker has rolled out the Volvo XC40 Recharge in the Indian market. The new electric Volvo XC40 car is a sign of the company’s growing popularity in the premium EV segment. Volvo has a manufacturing plant in Hoskote, near Bengaluru. The Swedish carmaker manufactures a host of its models at the same facility, including the S90, XC60, XC90, XC40 Recharge, and the newly debuted C40 Recharge.

Volvo is planning to go electric not just in India but globally as well. It is gearing up to launch more and more electric vehicles on the market. The automaker started selling its vehicles in the country in 2007. The XC90 SUV was Volvo India’s first car to be manufactured in the country. The Volvo XC60 is currently the company’s most famous offering in India. The brand has assembled over 4,000 units so far, registering about 40 percent of the overall models assembled at its facilities.

The Managing Director at Volvo Car India, Jyoti Malhotra, said, “It is indeed a matter of pride for the company to have reached this milestone in a short period in spite of nearly three years of pandemic disruptions. The steady increase in capacity at Bangalore reflects our commitment to India’s luxury mobility segment. The honour of being the ten thousandth car goes to our first Pure electric offering, XC40 Recharge which continues to showcase consumer confidence. I am beholden to Volvo Car India’s entire ecosystem that has made this milestone possible."

The Production Head of Volvo Car India, Gao Feng, said, “Rolling out the ten thousandth car is indeed a major milestone for our plant. Since 2017 we have been increasing our capacities to meet customer demand and have also continuously undertaken skill upgradation leading to the successful assembly of EVs. Our plant also holds the proud distinction of having rolled out India’s first domestically assembled EV, our XC40 Recharge."

The XC40 SUV was discontinued from the Indian market last year. The SUV was Volvo’s most affordable model on the market. The electric derivative is currently the brand’s most accessible offering, and it is priced at INR 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker is likely to introduce more models in the coming days that incorporate the EX90.
