Yamaha XSR155 was unveiled in August last year in the global market. The retro-looking bike was the third addition to Yamaha’s XSR bike range. As for the India launch, the Japanese bike maker has no such plan of introducing the model here. At present, the company’s main focus is to strengthen its market in the highly competitive 150-200cc segment with the newly launched Yamaha FZ-X. This particular bike is especially made for India based on the Indian customer requirements.
Talking about the Yamaha XSR 155, it was introduced in a new Matte Green Authentic color in the Indonesian market. The retro-styled bike is based on the same platform as the Yamaha R15 and MT-15. Design-wise, it features a circular headlamp and tail lamp inspired by Yamaha’s 70s and 80s motorcycles. It further gets a circular instrumentation pod that features a fully digital screen. The fuel tank and a flat-seat with a ribbed pattern gives the bike a retro-look. Dimensionally, the XSR 155 is 2000mm long, 805mm wide, and 1080mm high. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels. Besides these, it carries a kerb weight of 134 kg thereby making it 1 kg heavier than the MT-15.
“We have learned that the XSR155 is not currently on the company’s radar for India. At this moment we are not thinking about the XSR, our first focus is to create a separate segment for the FZ-X, which is a new category in the Indian two-wheeler space. We plan to strengthen our position in this segment with the FZ-X,” as commented by Ravinder Singh, senior vice president – sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd.
Performance-wise, the Yamaha XSR 155 draws power from a 155cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power of 19.3 bhp and a peak torque of 14.7 Nm. The motor is linked to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. It further comes with a VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology that optimizes power output within variable speeds. Suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic forks upfront and adjustable monoshock towards the rear.
